Democratic Alliance MP Glynnis Breytenbach said she and her lawyer Gerhard Waggenaar were innocent and that their trial will prove that.
They were granted bail of R10 000 each in the Pretoria Magistrate's court on Monday
The state said the two each face two counts of obstruction of justice and four counts of contravening the National Prosecutions Authority Act.
The charges relate to Breytenbach allegedly refusing to hand in her official laptop and removing evidence from it while she faced an internal investigation for misconduct several years ago.
Breytenbach told reporters she had actually deleted files from her official laptop but that they were personal files and could still be accessed via the computer server.
She added that the charges brought by the NPA were a huge irritation in her life as she was cleared of 15 charges during a disciplinary hearing hearing in 2013.
But NPA spokesman Luvuyo Mfaku said although there was no new evidence in the case, Breytenbach and Waggenaar had a case to answer.
