The ANC chief whip in Parliament Stone Sizani backed President Jacob Zuma’s call to revive the debate to move the national legislature from Cape Town to Pretoria.
A statement from Sizani’s office echoed Zuma’s sentiments during last week Thursday’s state-of-the-nation address that it had become unsustainable for South Africa to have two capitals – Pretoria as the administrative capital and Cape Town as the legislative capital.
Zuma asked Parliament to immediately look into the matter of relocating the legislature to save costs.
Sizani said moving Parliament would save the country millions of rands which could be channeled towards service delivery.
He said he was confident that the President’s view would be seriously considered by parties in Parliament to drastically arrest this uneconomical expenditure.
