Three people have died in dramatic shooting incident at a block of flats in Doonside on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast.

KZN police spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane, says the family tragedy unfolded at around 7.20am.
He said its alleged that a man had shot his wife and three other people before turning the gun on himself.

Zwane said two counts of murder have been opened as well as an inquest docket.

Meanwhile, Chris Botha of Netcare 911 says the shootings victims were a couple and the caretaker of the block of flats.

He told Algoa FM News that the caretaker's daughter and another tenant were also wounded in the morning drama.

"We were called out to a block of flats in the Doonside area for a shooting incident.  When we arrived there we found a total of five people had sustained gunshot wounds.  There was the caretaker of the block flats, his daughter and another man and his wife. Then a brother-in-law of one of the families also sustained a gunshot wound."

"The care-taker, the man and his wife from one of the block of flats in the building had tragically died there at the scene due to the very severe injuries that they had sustained.  One of the ladies had sustained a very critical wound.  Her and a man from another floor in the block also sustained a gunshot wound which was pretty serious.  They were treated at the scene, the female was taken to a local hospital where she's receiving treatment."

"The man was treated at the scene but refused any further hospitalisation."
