The Democratic Alliance has blamed the government for yesterday's death of a farmer in the North West province, saying it was the result of negligence of its responsibility towards the safety of its rural citizens.
The 49-year-old farmer was shot dead yesterday morning.
DA MP Juanita Terblanche says the prevalence of farm attacks bears testimony to the extreme vulnerability of rural South Africans in the absence of proper, visible and co-ordinated sector policing.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane, says the farmer and his wife were milking cows in their dairy when they were overpowered by five armed men, assaulted and the farmer was shot dead before the attackers fled in the man's car.
