Murder victim Gill Packham

Convicted wife killer Rob Packam was denied leave to appeal his conviction for murder by the highest court in the land.

The Constitutional Court made it's ruling against the 58-year-old former businessman on Wednesday.

The Concourt decision was welcomed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Packham was sentenced to 22-years in prison in June last year after killing his wife Gill.

Just days after his sentence he lodged an application for leave to appeal his conviction which was subsequently denied.

The NPA says Packham then went to the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) to appeal his conviction, but this attempt also failed.

National Spokesperson for the NPA Eric Ntabazalila says Packham did not stop there and asked the President of the SCA to reconsider his decision.

This too failed and Packam's last resort was the Constitutional Court.

The Court concluded that the application for leave to appeal against conviction should be dismissed as it lacked any reasonable prospect of success.

Packham had been married to his wife for almost 31 years, but the couple had been having marital problems because of his infidelities.

He killed his wife Gill in their house, before putting her in the boot of her car and setting her alight.

He also changed the BMW's number plates and argued that his wife had been a victim of a hijacking.

During sentencing, Judge Elize Steyn said that Packham had shown no remorse and described him as being "self-indulgent, hypocritical, deceitful and cowardly throughout the trial."
