A 30-year-old man from Theunissen in the Free State is in police custody following his arrest for the brutal murder of another man.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Thandi Mbambo says a community member witnessed the crime and made a citizen’s arrest before calling the police.
She says the body was retrieved from a water canal by police divers who were summoned to the scene.
The lifeless body of Ditsebe Lesotho was found wrapped in a blanket and tied with wires to a trolley that was used to drag him from the house where he was killed.
Colonel Mbambo says upon closer inspection of the body police discovered that he had an open wound to the head and a knife stuck in his hip.
Police also found a hammer at the suspect's house which is believed to be the murder weapon.
The motive for the gruesome murder is not known.
The suspect will appear in the Theunissen Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
