A 29-year-old man is expected to make his first court appearance in Upington on Monday following his arrest over the weekend on charges of human trafficking.

Colonel Katlego Mogale says he is the second person to be arrested in an intelligence-driven operation comprising of multiple units in Gauteng and the Northern Cape.

The man and his co-accused are alleged to have lured women from Upington to Sandton in Gauteng to be used as prostitutes.

Colonel Mogale says the suspect was arrested in an apartment in Sandton on Saturday where police rescued three women aged between 19 and 24.

She says they also confiscated cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The first suspect was arrested in the Northern Cape and has already appeared in court.

The 33-year-old Emmanuel Uzoaga will make a second appearance on Monday along with his co-accused.
