Commanding officer of Tempe arrested for assault

The new commanding officer of the Tempe military base in Bloemfontein has been arrested on assault charges.

Police spokesperson, Captain Chaka Marope, says 47-year-old Brigadier-General David Cebeni was arrested on Sunday afternoon after a complaint was laid at the Park Road police station.

Cebeni appeared in court yesterday and the matter was postponed until April 6.

Marope said charges of common assault and the pointing of a firearm were being investigated against Cebeni.

The complaints were laid by a woman.
