Clothing and textile workers gear up for living wage campaign

Clothing and textile workers will be seeking what they say is a living wage, when negotiations get underway later this year.

About 200 shop stewards from the SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union will be meeting in Cape Town this week to kick-start their Living Wage campaign.

The union, which represents around 100 000 workers, says it has collected about 16 000 living wage demands from its members in just over 1 600 workplaces nationally.

Sactwu says these demands will be consolidated into more coherent national sectoral demands, backed up by an aggressive national program of action.
