A 36-year-old computer engineer who was convicted on more than one thousand charges related to the rape of two boys has been sentenced to 8 400 years in jail.
Free State police said Mario Guisti was also sentenced in the Bloemfontein High Court on Tuesday for human trafficking and the possession, creation, and distribution of child pornography.
He was arrested in Welkom in the Free State last year after he was flagged by Interpol for uploading child sexual assault material onto the dark web.
Captain Lorraine Earle, said he had lured the two boys, whom he preferred to be between 8 and 10 years of age, with computer games.
“The parents of the victims trusted him and allowed the children to stay over at his house, thinking they were playing games. He even got one of the victims to come all the way from Durban to him and stay with him for months,” she said.
Earle said Guisti was identified from a fingerprint visible on one of the photos the investigating team from the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit, had received as part of the probe.
Police seized his computer and he was ultimately charged with 1010 charges, ranging from two counts of the rape of minor boys, human trafficking, and the creation and distribution of child pornography.
His name was included in the register of sexual offenders.
