A man from the Northern Cape is in custody after two people were shot dead on a smallholding in Vioolsdrift on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, said four men had been visiting a friend on the property when neighbours heard gunshots during the early hours of the morning.
“Upon arrival, the owner of the smallholding allegedly admitted to shooting two men and wanted to hand himself over to the police,” she said.
Two other men who were injured were taken to hospital.
The Knysna-Plett Herald reported that one of the deceased was a lawyer from Knysna.
Ehlers said the suspect, the 59-year-old accused, Jacob Dawid Malan Claassens, appeared in court in Springbok on Tuesday.
He remains in custody until his bail application next week.
