The R1m bail of a businessman accused of defrauding the KwaZulu-Natal education department, has been cancelled.
Pietermaritzburg High Court Judge Gregory Kruger ordered yesterday that Jabulani Zakhele Mabaso be taken into custody.
He failed to appear in court last week for the start of his trial.
Mabaso is accused of defrauding the department of R200m rand by inflating invoices.
His co-accused Pam Bosman-Zulu, the department's former chief financial officer, allegedly authorised the inflated payments in return for kickbacks.
Kruger said Mabso had used various ruses to delay trial.
Mabaso is expected to make a new application for bail this week.
