A 34-year-old British tourist has been arrested in Table View, Cape Town, for possessing tik with an estimated street value of R2.5m.
Lt-Col Andre Traut said the man was arrested at his storage facility in Potsdam road yesterday with 9kg of the drug in his possession.
Traut said the man was in South Africa on a three month tourist visa and that police had been monitoring his activities for some time.
Traut added that in a separate incident, a Chinese man had been arrested in his Cape Town office last night for possessing ivory and elephant tusks.
He said the consignment was first discovered by the SA Revenue Service during a routine inspection at a courier company.
It was then delivered to the suspect's office as part of an undercover operation by the Hawks, Sars and nature conservation.
There, they discovered more ivory products, elephant tusks and a cutting machine.
