The driver of a gas tanker involved in the explosion in Boksburg has been arrested.
A spokesperson for police Brigadier Brenda Muridili says police traced and arrested the driver at a private hospital where he was being treated for minor injuries.
The 32-year-old man was charged with multiple counts of culpable homicide, negligent causing of an explosion resulting in death and malicious damage to property.
Muridili says a preliminary investigation found that the loaded gas tanker got stuck trying to drive through a low bridge and the impact resulted in an explosion.
Fifteen people were killed and dozens injured, including eight firefighters who responded to the scene.
The driver is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
