Boksburg explosion death toll continues to climb

The death toll from the Boksburg tanker explosion has risen to 40.

This was announced on Thursday by Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi after two more people died in hospital.

The Ekhuruleni Metropolitan Municipality is reportedly also seeking legal advice on a possible class action lawsuit against the trucking company and the driver of the vehicle that exploded on Christmas Eve.

Premier Lesufi said it was in their right to pursue legal action in this regard.

He said he had the difficult task of visiting each of the families of the victims who perished in the massive blast, which is still under investigation.

The Premier said he hoped the police's investigation would provide answers for the families.

The truck exploded on the morning of Christmas Eve when the driver of a truck full of gas, got stuck on a low-bridge.
