The Department of Basic Education has postponed the mid-year amended senior certificate and national senior certificate examinations.
The Department says the matric examinations would have been written by more than 350,000 part-time candidates and includes those who did not meet the pass requirements in the 2019 final exams.
Department Director-General, Mathanzima Mweli, said due to the extended lockdown it was agreed that the exams, scheduled from the 4 May to 26 June, would now be merged with the November examination.
He said further details would be communicated to candidates who will also be informed of the details about registration, examination centres, and time-tables.
Mweli urged all candidates to continue with their preparations, adding that learning and revision material had been made available on the department's website.
He said the link for the second chance matric support programme was still available on the website to assist especially those who had been studying independently as part-time candidates.
