A 77-year-old farm foreman is recovering in hospital following a brutal attack on Sunday in which the assailants allegedly tried to drown him in a septic tank.
Agri Free State says Simon Makhotha was the target of a farm attack at Harrisdale farm in the Zastron area on Sunday.
Spokesperson, Tommy Esterhuyse, says he was taken by surprise, assaulted and stabbed by three assailants who later ransacked the farmhouse.
He says the attackers also tied up and tortured Makhota whom they tried to drown in a septic tank.
Esterhuyse says Makhota was able to free himself early on Monday morning and was found by workers from a neighbouring farm.
He says, when police were called, there were no vehicles available at the time to respond to the crime scene.
