Covid-19: SANDF soldiers employed till end of month at a cost of R95.66 million

President Cyril Ramaphosa has employed 2 122 members of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) to support the country for services related to Covid-19.

The President wrote a letter to the National Assembly Speaker and the National Council of Provinces, to inform them that he was authorised to make this request in terms of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
Ramaphosa says he would require their services to preserve life and help maintain law and order.
The Soldiers, deployed on 29 December, will be employed until the 31 January at a cost of R95.66 million.

During the hard lockdown in April last year 20 000 soldiers were deployed across the country.
