ANC MP back in court again

File

ANC Member of Parliament, Bongani Bongo, is due to make another court appearance on Friday.

The chairperson of Parliament's Home Affairs Portfolio Committee is accused of attempting to bribe the evidence leader in the inquiry into State Capture at Eskom.

The National Prosecuting Authority said Bongo is facing a charge of corruption.

The State alleges that in October 2017 at Parliament, Bongo offered Adv Vanara an unlawful gratification in the form of a monetary benefit, requesting him to decide the exact amount required, to stop the inquiry from proceeding.

He is out on bail of R 5000.

The former Minister of State Security also faces corruption charges from when he was still an official in the Mpumalanga Department of Human Settlement.

He appeared in court in October along with 10 other co-accused, including his brother, in connection with a land deal in Naauwpoort, Emalahleni involving several million rands.
