Six suspects linked to the murder of tender whistle-blower Babit Deokaran appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

Phakamani Hadebe, Zitha Hadebe, Nhlangano Ndlovu, Sanele Mbhele, Simphiwe Mazibuko and Phakanyiswa Dladla were charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The case was postponed to September 13th for a formal bail application.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s Phindi Mjonondwane says charges against a seventh suspect were withdrawn due to a lack of evidence.

Deokaran was a senior health official in Gauteng who blew the whistle on PPE tender fraud worth R300 million.

She was gunned down outside her house last week.

The NPA's Mjonondwane says none of the suspects arrested so far is linked to the Department of Health.

More arrests are expected.
