Motorists will have to dig even deeper into their pockets from midnight on Tuesday when fuel prices are set to rise significantly.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy recently announced the fuel price adjustments for February.
Spokesperson, Robert Maake, said both grades of petrol will increase by 82 cents a litre, diesel will go up by R1.01 and R1.05c per litre for both grades.
He said illuminating paraffin goes up by R1.29c and LP gas goes up by 42 cents a kilogram.
Maake said higher fuel prices and a weaker Rand against the US Dollar for the period under review, were the reasons for the February adjustments.
"The average international petroleum product prices followed the increasing trend of crude oil while the prices of LPG increased because of higher freight cost amid the cold winter season in the Northern Hemisphere.
"These factors led to higher contributions to the basic fuel prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin," he said.
Maake said the "slate levy", which had a positive, cumulative balance of R4.05 billion for petrol and diesel of at the end of December 2024, remained unchanged at zero cents in the price structures of petrol and diesel with effect from 4 February.
