The former Minister of State Security, advocate Bongani Bongo (47) appeared in the Cape Town magistrates court on Tuesday following his arrest on corruption charges.
The Hawks said Bongo was granted bail of R5000.
Spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, said the former cabinet minister is alleged to have approached a member of the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises to “arrange a meeting” in a bid to prevent the next sitting where the Eskom board was due to appear before the oversight committee.
Mogale said it was further alleged that a “price” or gratification was allegedly discussed.
She said Bongo was a member of the National Assembly until May 2024.
He will be back in court again on 4 March.
