Fourteen people have been gunned down in two mass shootings, suspected to be drug-related, in KwaZulu-Natal.
Police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says members responded to an incident in the Richmond area after residents heard gunshots coming from a house late on Friday evening.
"That is when they discovered that eight people were killed and two were wounded in the attack on the homestead", he said.
Naicker says seven men and a woman, aged between 15 and 41, died in the attack.
"According to information from the community, it appears that the homestead was being used as a drug den", Naicker said.
In another incident in Amaoti, north of Durban on Friday afternoon, six men - including a 17-year-old boy - were gunned down.
Naicker says according to reports, three gunmen opened fire on the group.
"It is alleged that a vehicle with three occupants arrived at a tuckshop and opened fire on a group of men who were seated behind the premises", he said.
Naicker says at this stage information gathered at the scene indicates that the victims were consuming drugs and that the incident may have been drug-related.
No arrests have yet been made in both cases.
