The SA Weather Service reports that contrary to popular belief, Port Elizabeth recorded one of the hottest Junes on record.
The average maximum temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius was a record since records started in 1950.
PE weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson says it surpassed the record of 22.1 C, which was recorded in 1996.
This is almost a full two degrees higher than the average of 20.7 C
East London also recorded a record high average maximum temperature of 24.1 C, which was also the highest since 1950.
Fort Beaufort recorded its highest average maximum temperature since 2000 at 24.3 degrees while Bhisho’s average maximum of 22.9 was also its highest since 2000
Sampson says the main reason for this was the relatively cloudless conditions and the lowered number and intensity of frontal systems passing over the region.
