In the last 48 hours, Port Elizabeth has received a whopping 56 millimetres of rain.
Garth Sampson at the PE Branch of the SA Weather Service says this is the best rain in Nelson Mandela Bay for quite some time.
The minimum temperature dropped down to seven degrees which is one of the coldest days in the city this year.
Nelson Mandela Bay’s main supply dams have received a major boost in the past 48 hours.
Sampson says the Langkloof catchment received between 36 mm at Joubertina and 69 mm at Kareedouw, with the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park recording 146 mm for Stormsriver and 36.5mm for Bloukrans.
He warned, however, that it is not enough to alleviate the water crisis in the Metro and that residents must continue using water sparingly.
The Port Elizabeth airport received 57 millimetres in the past two days while 82 mm was measured at the 3rd Avenue Dip in Newton Park.
Other notable figures since Monday saw St Albans west of Port Elizabeth receive 60 mm and Woodridge College 46.4 mm.
Cape St Francis measured 55.6 mm.
