The SA Weather Service says two winter systems will affect the country this week, with their impact extending into the weekend.

It says an intense cold front will arrive in the Eastern Cape in the afternoon.

Severe weather alerts issued by SA Weather:

Disruptive rain is expected along the South Coast and adjacent interior resulting in localized flooding of settlements, roads and low-lying areas.

Disruptive snow is expected over the high lying areas from Thursday afternoon, resulting in traffic disruptions with most passes closed and some communities temporarily inaccessible.

Very cold conditions are expected in places over the western parts of the Province on Thursday, spreading across the Eastern Cape on Friday.

The public and small stock farmers are advised to take necessary precautions.

Rain measured on Thursday morning

Two winter weather systems moving across the country have brought some good falls to Nelson Mandela Bay’s main catchment area in the Langkloof over the past three days.

Local weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson reports that 24 millimetres of rain were measured at Kareedouw in the heart of the Langkloof up until 8 am.

Joubertina received 11.4 mm and Patensie 4 mm.

In the Metro itself, St Albans received 19.6 mm, the Van Stadens Flower Reserve 16 mm and the airport 8.6 mm.

Nelson Mandela Bay’s main supply dams are currently at an average of 10.6% of the total combined capacity.

Elsewhere, George enjoyed 26.6 mm of rain and Plettenberg Bay 13.6.

It is expected to rain for most of Thursday.
