South Africa's mountain bike legend Greg Minnaar won his fourth world championship title at the UCI World Downhill Championship in Val di Sole, Italy, on Sunday.
Pietermaritzburg-born Minnaar produced a gutsy ride on a challenging course to finish ahead of France’s Benoit Coulanges and Australia’s Troy Brosnan in a winning time of three minutes 28.963 seconds.
"I just dropped my head and started crying," Minnaar said afterwards. "I couldn't hold back. It is an incredible feeling, so overwhelming."
Minaar’s previous mountain bike downhill world titles came in 2003, 2012 and 2013.
This tile, on a brutal course, will be even sweeter as the Santa Cruz rider, affectionately known at The Goat, turns 40 later this year.
