Springbok star winger, Makazole Mapimpi, is out of the World Cup and heading home following a serious injury in Sunday's match against Tonga.
Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, said today that he suffered a fractured eye socket and cheekbone and will be out for four to six weeks.
He said if the Boks make it to the final, and given what he brings to the team off the field, they will fly Mapimpi and Malcolm Marx back to France.
Mapimpi was involved in a head-on-head collision with Tonga scrumhalf Augustine Pulu in the first half, which forced him to leave the field.
The Boks meanwhile, will receive a well-deserved break to recover before their rugby programme begins again on Wednesday.
The Springboks got a bonus point win against Tonga in their final pool game of the rugby World Cup 2023 running out comfortable 49-18 winners in Marseille.
The win takes South Africa to the top of Pool B on 15 points, one more than Ireland who still have a crunch game a Scotland (on 10 points) coming up next Saturday to decide the final pool standings.
