The EP Rugby Union says it has accepted a letter of resignation with immediate effect from its Deputy President Bantwini Matika.
EPRU President Andre Rademan says they received and accepted Matika’s resignation on Monday after he was implicated in the submitting of fraudulent invoices to the Union.
Rademan told AlgoaFM News that two other EPRU members - an executive member and an official – are also under investigation and have until 12-noon on Tuesday to give reasons why they should not be relieved of their duties.
Their names are known to AlgoaFM News.
Rademan said the matter involved fraudulent invoices that had been brought to his attention.
He said he had refused to sign the invoices off and that the Union had not lost any money.
He said, however, that the EPRU had asked Judge Lex Mpati to investigate a possible attempt at fraud which could have cost the Union hundreds of thousands of rands.
Rademan confirmed that a criminal case was pending.
Matika courted controversy last year when he called former Springbok coach Nick Mallett a racist after Mallett was asked to serve on the committee that would select the next Southern Kings head coach.
Mallett subsequently withdrew from that selection process.
