The Nashua Titans beat the Chevrolet Warriors by 5 wickets in a Ram Slam T-20 Challenge Match at Axxess St Georges on Friday night. They finished on 121 for 5 in 18.1 overs after looking wobbly at 61 for 5 after 13 overs. Enter the cool head of Albie Morkel who almost single handedly took the game away from the Warriors. He plundered 46 not out off 17 balls with five fours and three sixes and found a willing ally in Ferhaan Behardien who finished on 16 not out.
The Warriors earlier did well to make their score of 120 for 8 in their 20 overs. They got off to a shocker and at 36 for 5 in the 8th over it looked all over. It wasn’t much better at 50 for 6 in the 12th over but Adrian Mclaren and Simon Harmer than put on 42 runs for the 7th wicket before McLaren fell for 9 in the 17th over with the score on 92. Aya Gqamane departed immediately for a first ball duck, but from 92 for 8 after 16.4 overs, Harmer and Andrew Birch fired the Warriors to a total they could at least defend. Harmer finished unbeaten on 39 and Birch on 20. Harmer hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in his 27-ball knock and Birch 3 fours in his little cameo off 14 balls. The spinner Eden Links was the pick of the Titans bowlers with 3 for 13 in four overs and there were two wickets apiece for David Wiese and Merchant de Lange.
After winning their opening game by 8 wickets under the Duckworth Lewis method to the Knights in Kimberley last week, the Warriors need to get back on the winning trail quickly against the in-form Highveld Lions in Potch on Sunday.
