Tiger undergoes surgery after car crash

Tiger Woods underwent surgery overnight after his car went off the road and rolled down a steep hillside in suburban Los Angeles.

Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, said later that Tiger had undergone surgery for multiple compound leg fractures on both legs.

The 45-year-old golfing great’s injuries were said to be non-life-threatening.

According to the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department, Woods was the sole occupant of the car when it crashed at about 7.12 am on Tuesday.

Video footage of his luxury Genesis Sports Utility vehicle shows extensive damage - particularly to the front of the car.

Rescue officials say they had to use the ‘jaws of life’ to extricate the 15-time Major champion from the wreckage but that he was calm and lucid at the time and wearing his seatbelt.

Woods was the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club outside Los Angeles last week where Max Homa won his second career PGA Tour title.

Woods did not play as he was busy with rehabilitation work after a 5th back surgery of his career and indicated at the time he was uncertain if he would be able to compete at The Masters at Augusta in April.

While its too early to say what the long-term effects of Tiger’s leg injuries will be its almost certainly ended his 2021 season before it even began.
