Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Nqaba Bhanga visited the EP Elephants on Saturday morning to share a message of support ahead of their first competitive rugby match in nearly a year.
The Mayor tweeted that sport is an imperative aspect in building a united city.
He posed with the team during the taking of the official team photograph at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The Mayor was also presented with a team jersey by EP Rugby President Andre Rademan.
The traditional red and black hooped EP jersey had the number one and Bhanga’s name printed on the back.
“I am available as a substitute anytime the team needs me,” joked the Mayor as he proudly displayed his new jersey.
Coach Peter de Villiers and his EP Elephants then flew out to Pretoria for their opening 2021 Kickoff series match of the season against the Bulls.
Kick off at Loftus is at 3pm on Sunday.
