The Sunrisers Eastern Cape roared into second place on the Betway SA20 table with an emphatic 124 run bonus point win over the Durban Super Giants at a rocking St Georges Park on Sunday night.

The Sunrisers made a massive 210/2 in their 20 overs and then bundled out the hapless Super Giants for 86 in 14.4 overs.

The only thing visiting captain Quinton de Kock got right was winning the toss but his decision to ask the Sunrisers to bat first backfired horribly.

Adam Rossington smashed 72 off 30 balls and Jordan Hermann helped himself to 59 off 44 in a first wicket partnership of 101 in just 8.2 overs.

That laid the platform for the Sunrisers monstrous total as captain Aiden Markram with 44 runs off 34 balls and Tristan Stubbs with 27 off 13 continued the onslaught.

A shell-shocked Super Giants outfit never came close in reply, slipping to 35/4 inside 7 overs from which there was no way back.

It was the Sunrisers use of four spinners which totally befuddled the visitors, non more so than the guile of veteran 38-year-old journeyman Roelof van der Merwe who took an astonishing tournament best 6/20 in his 4 overs to comfortably take the man of the match award.

The Orange Army will be back in force at St Georges Park on Tuesday when the Sunrisers take on the Paarl Royals in a day game starting at 1.30 pm.
