ASHWELL PRINCE of the Chevrolet Warriors has bagged the Sunfoil Series Sizzler of the Month award for the month of December following his strong batting performances in the two rounds of qualifying matches.
The Sunfoil Sizzler of the Month award is worth R15 000.
Ashwell played a mammoth innings of 198 in the drawn game against the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras and followed this with back-to-back half-centuries (78 and 62) in the 225-run victory over The Unlimited Titans. It gives him the top batting average in the Sunfoil Series of 102.50 from the three matches that he has played.
He and the previous month’s winner, Stiaan van Zyl of the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, are the only two batsmen with an aggregate of more than 400 runs.
Other players who came strongly into contention for the December award were the Chevrolet Knights duo of Quinton Friend and Rilee Rossouw, Kyle Abbott of the Sunfoil Dolphins and Andrew Puttick of the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras.
Simon Harmer of the Chevrolet Warriors has the overall top aggregate over the first two months of the series.
“Congratulations to Ashwell on his Sunfoil sizzler award. His statistics speak for themselves,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat. “It is essential for our domestic first class system to have players of the calibre and experience of Prince, particularly at international level, and then showing our emerging talent just what is expected to progress to the top.”
The South African Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player index (SACA MVP) is used as the measuring tool in determining the Sunfoil Sizzler of the Month.
