Strauss calls it quits


England Test captain Andrew Strauss announced his retirement from all professional cricket with immediate effect yesterday, insisting  his decision to quit had nothing to do with the ongoing Kevin Pietersen saga.

Strauss said he had been considering retiring for some time because of a loss of form and that he believed it was in the best interests of everyone that he step down.

The 35-year-old opener played in exactly 100 test matches and captained England for 50 of them,  winning 24.

Alastair Cook, already England's one-day captain was announced as the new skipper of the Test team.
