Sri Lanka Cricket has suspended its national player Danushka Gunathilaka following his arrest in Australia.
The batsman is facing four charges of sexual assault and was arrested shortly after his team's loss to England at the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday.
The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket says they have a zero-tolerance approach and will not consider Gunathilaka for any selections.
The 31-year-old player is currently in custody in Sydney where he is expected to apply for bail.
Sri Lanka Cricket said if found guilty they will take the necessary steps to penalize the player.
It also offered its support in the investigation.
According to AFP Gunathilaka had chatted with his accuser for several days on a dating app and eventually went out for dinner and drinks before going back to her apartment.
The woman alleges that she was assaulted and raped.
