The Spring Rose Rugby club, the second oldest club in the Eastern Province, have welcomed Nomaxhosa Construction as a new sponsor, following the generous donation of new Blazers and Ties for the club.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at the EP Kings offices, Spring Rose President, Xhanti Lamani said it a great privilege to be associated with NomaXhosa Construction.
“It is part of our duties as a rugby club to build these relationships and to come up with such initiatives. We need to collaborate in order to advance the cause of creating a non-racial South Africa,” he said.
Lamani praised Nomaxhosa Construction’s Ayanda Ntlama for offering to assist the club.
“The example you are setting, you need to be encouraged,” he said. “Your contribution will not only help turn around Spring Rose, but it will have a moral impact on our youth, you are contributing, in a small way, but to us it means a lot,” he said.
Lamani said around 70 percent of the membership of Spring Rose currently consists of unemployed young, talented players from single parent homes.
“We have a huge responsibility of providing guidance to these youth, and you are adding value,” he said.
Ntlama said when he had been approached, he had not realised the impact that his contribution would make.
“I was born and raised in New Brighton, and Spring Rose approached me and asked if I could contribute in any form,” he said.
“From what I am seeing it is a huge impact. I didn’t expect that there would be so much excitement around it. I feel it has given the youth a sense of belonging and a sense of pride that they are able to be a part of something bigger than them.
Ntlama said there were still a long list of requirements needed by the club, and encouraged other businesses to also come foreward and assist.
“There is a big list of requirements. We will take the list one step at a time, there are further requirements in terms of infrastructure and other needs that need to be met, to realise the club’s potential, but it will also require other businesses to come forward and assist,” he said.
