Southern Kings face player exodus

The Southern Kings are facing a mass exodus of players following their exit from Super Rugby.

Up to 10 Kings players are likely to announce moves to other franchises and abroad in the next few days.

News was already coming through on Monday afternoon that stylish fullback SP Marais has signed for the Sharks.

Waylon Murray, Bandise Maku, Jacques Engelbrecht and David Bulbring all have agreements to join the Bulls.

Tighthead prop Kevin Buys is heading for Brive in France and loosehead prop Schalk Ferreira is in talks with the Lions.

Scrumhalf Shaun Venter will return to the Pumas for the Currie Cup while back-up flyhalf Wesley Dunlop has signed for French club Carcasonne for the upcoming season.

Demetri Catrakilis has offers from Western Province and the Blue Bulls.

Meanwhile:

The New South Wales Waratahs have pulled off a coup by announcing the signing of South African hard man Jacques Potgieter on a two-year contract.

The 27-year-old Springbok and former EP Kings flanker will join the Tahs from the Bulls prior to the start of the 2014 competition, following a stint in Japanese rugby.

Waratahs coach Michael Cheika says Pottie is an ideal fit for the squad - eyeing him more as a lock for his abilities as a no-nonsense, hard and strong ball carrier and tackler.
