South Africa outplayed Sri Lanka to win the first test by an innings and 45 runs inside four days at Supersport Park, Centurion, on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka resumed their second innings on 65 for 2 on Tuesday morning and were bowled out for 180, shortly after lunch.
It was an impressive fightback by the Proteas after the visitors made a seemingly useful total of 396 in their first innings.
South Africa replied with a massive total of 621, led by Faf du Plessis with his masterful knock of 199.
Sri Lanka had no answer to that imposing scoreboard pressure and succumbed meekly in reply.
Warriors paceman Anrich Nortje was impressive in the second innings with 2/47 in 10.1 overs after only picking up one wicket in the first innings.
Grey High School product Lutho Sipamla was equally impressive on debut with his pace and aggression, taking 2/24 in the second innings and 4/76 in the first innings.
The selectors now have a headache when it comes to their fast-bowling options as Kagiso Rabada is over his injury and is available for selection for the second and final test at the Wanderers, starting on Sunday 3 January.
