South African football fans will be allowed to return to a live match for the first time in two years when Bafana Banfana and Ethiopia clash in a FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier at FNB Stadium.
The SA Football Association SAFA announced on Monday that a limited number of 2000 vaccinated spectators will be allowed to attend the match in Soweto which kicks off at 6 pm.
SAFA says its part of its initiative to use football as a tonic to expedite mass vaccinations that will enable society to return to normalcy.
Tomorrow's process will be fully administered by SAFA, the Stadium Management at FNB Stadium and the two Government Ministries of Health, and Sports, Arts and Culture.
"Fans have been hungry to return to the stadium and the small business and informal sector will receive a massive boost as a result of this initiative," said SAFA President Danny Jordaan.
He said the 2000 spectators was a pilot project and once the initiative is proved to be successful, the numbers will be ramped up going forward.
The following criteria will be used to accept a limited number of 2000 spectators at the stadium on Tuesday, 12 October 2021.
