SABC won't broadcast the Cricket World Cup 2023

ICC

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) announced on Tuesday that it will not be broadcasting the upcoming Cricket World Cup in India.

In a brief statement, the State Broadcaster said it was unsuccessful in securing free-to-air broadcasting rights, following extensive negotiations with Multichoice (Supersport).

The SABC says it was once again been disadvantaged in securing the broadcasting rights of one of the sporting codes classified as that of national interest by ICASA.

It said the sub-licensing fees were unaffordable and had restrictive conditions imposed.

The Cricket World Cup starts on Thursday.

Last month, as South African sport enthusiasts started salivating over the Rugby World Cup, they too were told that it was simply not affordable to the SABC.

In a last-minute deal, however, Hollywoodbets, South African Breweries with the Castle Lager Brand came on board to help seal a deal with MultiChoice.
