SA Rugby raises more than half-a-million rand in six days to fight Covid19

Limited edition replica Rugby World Cup 2019 final ball

SARU

The South African Rugby Union said it had raised more than R500 000 in six days as part of its campaign to fight the Covid19 pandemic.

SARU said the Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, is also all in with the #StrongerTogether 32-12 campaign, which is aimed at raising funds to feed those in need during and after the pandemic.

Springbok players also made several unique prizes available for the campaign, including captain Siya Kolisi’s match jersey worn during a RWC pool match, Pieter-Steph du Toit’s presentation tracksuit, match shorts and socks from Lukhanyo Am, Frans Malherbe’s tracksuit and backpack and Damian De Allende’s gym kit.

Furthermore, SA Rugby is also offering a personalized RWC Trophy Tour to the house of one lucky winner, and a seat on the Springbok team bus to one of their local Tests.

SARU said that Gilbert, the official ball supplier to RWC 2019 and SA Rugby, has also come to the party and added a limited edition replica Cup final ball for every winner, commemorating last year’s final, which the Springboks won by 32-12 over England.

Erasmus, who guided the Boks to RWC glory in Japan, is donating his lucky white shirt and a talk to raise funds for the winner’s charity of choice.

“This is a superb cause and I am grateful to be able to play a small part in trying to help those who have been hit hardest by this pandemic,” said Erasmus.
