Bafana Bafana got their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start with a 2-1 win over Benin at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
The SA Football Association said coach Hugo Broos and his players were looking for a win in their opening match Group C match, and Percy Tau got the ball rolling with the opening goal in the third minute.
Bafana Bafana got their second goal came just before the halftime break through Khuliso Mudau, with the visitors clawing their way back in the second half to score in the 69th minute through Steve Mounie.
Broos thanked the supporters for coming out in numbers to support the national side.
Bafana Bafana returned back to Johannesburg immediately after the game and will travel to Rwanda on Sunday for their second FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Benin will play Lesotho in Durban on the same day.
