South African fast-bowling legend Dale Steyn officially called time on a glittering career on Tuesday, telling his 3.3 million followers on Twitter that after 20 years of wins, losses, travelling, strapped feet and brotherhood that he was officially retiring from the game he loved the most.
He'd already retired from Test cricket, but until Tuesday, had still been available for national selection in the shortest format of the game.
Affectionately knows the Steyn-remover, South Africa’s most successful Test bowler in history said it was a bitter-sweet moment, but that he was very grateful.
He thanked everyone from family to teammates, to journalists and fans, for an incredible journey. “There are too many memories to tell, too many faces to thank,” he wrote.
At the age of 38, Steyn retires as South Africa’s leading Test wicket taker with 439 wickets in 93 Test matches.
Dale also took 196 wickets in 125 One Day Internationals for his country and 64 wickets in 47 T20 Internationals.
