Lizelle Lee is the new Wisden leading women's cricketer in the world, the first South African to hold the title.
The Momentum Proteas opening bat enjoyed a stellar 2021 season in which she scored 632 runs at an average of 90.28.
She scored 5 half-centuries and 1 century for her country, which was also her highest score of 132 not out.
Joe Root was named as Wisden's leading men's cricketer in the world, just a week after he stepped down as England's test captain following a dismal run of one win in 17 games.
But his impeccable form with the bat last year, when he scored 1 708 runs at an average of 61, helped him earn the global award.
The Five Wisden Cricketers of the Year are Jasprit Bumrah, Devon Conway, Rohit Sharma, Ollie Robinson and Nelson Mandela Bay's very own Dane van Niekerk.
Wisden writes that the Momentum Proteas captain was simply outstanding in The Hundred's inaugural season.
She scored 259 runs at an average of 43.16 and took 8 wickets at an average of 20.62 runs per wicket.
She also captained her Oval Invincibles side to the The Hundred title.
