New Zealand staged an outstanding fightback in the post-tea session to reduce South Africa to 191 for seven at stumps on the first day of the first test at the University Oval in Dunedin.
Four hours of play were lost at the beginning of the day to bad weather and when the toss did take place, Black Caps captain Ross Taylor had no hesitation in asking South Africa to bat.
They reached 86 for one at tea but lost 6 wickets in the final session of the day's play.
Jacque Rodolph resumes tomorrow on 46 alongside Vernon Philander on 4.
Graeme Smith made 53 and Hashim Amla 62
Jacque Kallis and AB de Villiers were both dismissed by Chris Martin without scoring, AB getting a first baller and Kallis lasting just 2 deliveries.
Martin was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 34 in 14 overs, he also got the prized wicket of Smith which started the rot.
