Marco Jansen took five wickets as the Proteas thumped Australia by 122 runs at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday.
The ODI series win will give South Africa confidence going into the Cricket World Cup in India in a few weeks’ time after Australia won the T20I series with a whitewash.
Captain Temba Bavuma said in the post-match interview that there had to be some conversations to be had after Australia won the first two matches of the ODI series.
He said Australia put them under pressure in the beginning and “conversations” need to be had around the bowling and how to build character.
Bavuma said the team has found a way to get on top of a game even when their “backs are against the wall.”
He said the confidence gained from winning the series from behind will not be lost and they will go to India “in the best position” they could be in.
Marco Jansen, who was named Man of the Match, for his five wickets, and 47 runs off 23 deliveries, described his performance as “fulfilling” at the Wanderers.
“These types of performances give you confidence as a player,” he said, admitting that he enjoyed the batting more on the day.
Aiden Markram was named Player of the Series, saying his confidence was a little better after a “scratchy” start to the series.
Australian Captain, Mitchel Marsh, described the loss as a missed opportunity after going two nil up the five-match series.
