Proteas clean-sweep Sri Lanka in 2-Test series

Dean Elgar: CSA

South Africa cruised to a comfortable ten wicket win over Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test at the Wanderers on Tuesday for an emphatic two-nil clean sweep of the series.

The Proteas won the first test in equally dominant fashion by an innings and 45 runs at Supersport Park, Centurion.

Sri Lanka was bowled out for 211 runs in their second innings on day three at the Wanderers, leaving the Proteas needing a mere 67 runs for victory.

The two openers, Aiden Markram and first innings centurion Dean Elgar, reached the target shortly after lunch, finishing on 67 without loss.

Elgar, who was named man of the match and man of the series, was undefeated at the end on 31 while Markram made a confidence-building 36 not out.

Warriors quick Anrich Nortje backed up his career best 6 for 56 in the first innings with another two wickets in the second innings for a match-haul of 8 wickets.

The Proteas next assignment is a two-test Tour of Pakistan at the end of the month.

Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore are set to host South Africa between 26 January and 14 February.
