IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa postponed to September

The IRONMAN 70.3: IRONMAN SA

Ironman South Africa has announced the postponement of the IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa triathlon, set to take place on the 24th of January this year in Buffalo City.

It’s been rescheduled to the 5th of September this year in response to the recent developments around the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Ironman SA says that in alignment with the Buffalo City Municipality, it regrets to announce that the IRONMAN 70.3 cannot take place in East London this month.

That’s in light of the South African Government announcing further limitations on indoor and outdoor gatherings - which includes the closure of beaches around the country.

“We share in the disappointment and thank our athletes for their patience and understanding,” said Ironman spokesperson Siya Ndzimande.  “Athletes that are registered for the event will receive an e-mail with further information.”

Ndzimande told AlgoaFM Sport that at this stage, the Durban IRONMAN 70.3 is still set to go ahead on the 6th of June.

Last month, Ironman South Africa announced that the 2021 IRONMAN African Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay had been moved from the 14th of March to the 21st of November because of South African Government COVID-19 restrictions on event numbers.

The 2021 Isuzu Corporate Triathlon Challenge, powered by Algoa FM in Nelson Mandela Bay, has been rescheduled from the 13th of March to the 20th of November this year.

Ndzimande said these dates remained in place.
