Horseracing and betting organisation, Gold Circle has apologised for the inconvenience to racing fans, stakeholders, and sponsors after a jockey protest led to the abandonment of the final three races on the 2023 Durban July card on Saturday.
It says in a statement the unanticipated implementation of power outages was made contrary to arrangements with the City Of Durban, which ultimately led to the jockeys citing unsafe conditions as the reason for their refusal to ride.
Gold Circle says this was out of its control and a full investigation has been launched.
It says the event, which was attended by more than 45 000 people, was, however, a success.
The R5-million Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July at Greyville was won by jockey, Kabelo Matsunyane on Winchester Mansion.
Race favorite, See It Again came second.
